Natural Language Processing Agent Can Extract Key Fields for Recurring Billing and Revenue Recognition from Text-Based Documents
WASHINGTON, August 20, 2025 – Ordway, the finance platform for innovative business models, today announced that it has launched a new AI-powered agent to capture contract details automatically and feed the information into its subscription billing and revenue accounting engines. The new AI feature uses natural language processing and machine learning to parse fields such as customer name, billing address, contract effective dates, payment schedule, unit pricing, volume discounts, auto-renewal, and termination clauses.
Accurate billing and revenue accounting is critically dependent on capturing accurate and complete details from customer contracts. These agreements can originate in many sources including a company’s CRM for sales-led motions, a partner’s sales automation app for channel-led motions, or in the application’s UX for product-led motions. Early adopters are experimenting with new sales channels such as AI-powered chatbots on their websites or developer-friendly command line interfaces within the product.
Historically, companies have needed to setup bespoke integrations to each of their sales channels by mapping each of the fields needed in the billing to the corresponding data in the originating system. However, these sales channel integrations are one of the top sources of complexity and risk in billing system deployments that often contribute to delays and, in some cases, full postponements of the project. Some small businesses eschew the integration altogether finding it easier to simply manually enter the data for each new contract into the billing system, an error prone process that can take between 10 to 30 minutes per agreement.
Ordway’s new AI-powered contract abstraction solution is designed to reduce the effort required to input key contract data fields into its billing and revenue management system. Customers can simply upload text-based or image-captures of the contracts in formats such as PDFs, DOCX, and JPEG into the system and Ordway’s AI capture agent will parse out the relevant details needed for billing. Contracts can be uploaded in bulk or individually via the application UX. AI-abstracted contracts are captured in a pending status until a finance or revenue operations team member can review the automatically collected data for accuracy.
“The biggest hurdle in billing system implementations isn’t configuring the product catalog or synchronizing data with the ERP. It’s connecting to the CRM,” said Max Rosenberg, vice president of client services for Ordway. “Companies heavily customize their Salesforce and HubSpot applications to meet the specific needs of their sales and account management teams. Deploying a new billing system often requires changes the way sales opportunities are managed in the CRM that requires GTM process redesign and delays implementation.”
